Literally translates to “scissor cuts” or the art of cutting paper. The hand cut paper process begins by the customer providing a photograph of their pet that best highlights their personality.
I produce a sketch that pares down the pet to its most essential form, focusing on what makes it unique.
The colors are mapped out and the paper meticulously cut and then glued together in order to create the portrait. Tweezers are even used in order to get the fine details in place.
The resulting portrait is a minimal yet bold representation of your pet that celebrates its personality and charm.

I knew of Bridget though a co-worker, and I’m so thankful I did. I requested a portrait of my mom’s beloved Great Dane, Hrothgar, for her to remember him after he passed. I don’t know how Bridget seemed to intuit his whole character based on the handful pictures I sent her, but she did. Not only was it a beautiful piece of art, but she captured our good boy’s personality better than a picture or a more literal portrait possibly could have. My mom and I both loved it (and we both cried).

PET PAINTINGS
Custom pet portrait paintings are made using acrylic on watercolor paper, finished with pen and ink.
The expressive brush marks and bold colors are balanced by the intricate strokes of pen and ink. The eyes are always the focal point of the painting, they are the key to capturing the pet’s personality and soul.
My paintings retain glimpses of the under-drawing because I think it’s important to not be fearful of showing the process. I am influenced by traditional cel animation, particularly 101 Dalmatians. For example, when Pongo stretches there is a ghost image that can be seen from the erasure marks that adds another dimension of contour and liveliness.

Chalk on the Walk is normally held each year on the first Sunday in May on Church Street in Harvard Square. A crowd that reaches 100,000 people sees our artists' beautiful drawings come to life.
